The Battle of the Videos

Posted by Simon on March 15th, 2007 in Opinion | 1 Comment

YouTube is having a hard time. Recently Turkey blocked YouTube and now Viacom sues YouTube for one billion dollar for “copyright crimes”.

Viacom is a company that owns several different channels such as MTV and Comedy Central.

The question is that why Viacom didn’t arranged a license agreement with YouTube like BBC, NBC and Universal already have done? Is it in a silly attempt to drive users to their own little video community?

Blog Here Blog There Blog Everywhere!

It seems that every time you go online there’s another site offering their blog service and most are pretty much template based. Not only that but in most cases you need to be online and on their site but please don’t think for a second that I dislike the sites that offer free blogs in fact I think they are great and in most cases free. I know there are a few alternatives but I ran into one yesterday that I didn’t know existed. You may or may not have heard of Thingamablog but all I can do is pass it on and hope somone benefits. Here is a little bit more on Thingamablog:

PayPerPost’s new segmentation system for high traffic blogs

Posted by Simon on March 14th, 2007 in Blogging, Make Money | No Comments

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usAs you probably already know by now PayPerPost is a blog marketing program for bloggers and advertisers. It’s a good program for small blogs that have a pretty good Google pagerank but haven’t really got a huge traffic to their blog or blogs.

And with PayPerPost’s new segmentation system blogs that have a high traffic will also benefit from the program. This new segmentation system could earn bloggers up to $1000 for a single sponsored post. It sounds like a fairytale but it’s actually quite real.

But you shouldn’t forget that disclosure is required from all bloggers. That means that you have to in some way inform your readers that the post is a sponsored post, either by a site wide disclosure policy or on a per post basis. I personally believe this a good thing as there are ethical questions about getting paid for posting.

Another good thing about PayPerPost is that they only charge a 35% service fee. Similar programs such as ReviewMe charges a 100% markup. That means they are taking half of your money for each post. And that isn’t fair. It’s you that have done all the hard work, not they.

So if you got a high traffic blog and want another way to make money from it you should join PayPerPost. You don’t have so many reasons not to anymore.

How much have you made or donated from PayPerPost?

Posted by Simon on March 13th, 2007 in Make Money, Opinion | 1 Comment

I talked about PayPerPost.com in a previous post called “Big News at PayPerPost?” where I shortly explained that PayPerPost is a blog marketing program for bloggers and advertisers.

A few blog friends of mine have nagged me about joining PayPerPost for a few weeks now as it apparently have been very successful for them. But I have always said no because I thought that it was like lying for your readers if you posted paid posts just for the money. But my friends won, I eventually signed up for a PayPerPost. Stop right there! Don’t think for a second that the dark and greedy side has won over me and that I only post paid posts and articles now and that I lie and cheat on you. I actually realised that PayPerPost offered a few topics that I was planning on writing about anyways and that my post could be negative or good. So I could basically tell you the reader what the site or product that I was getting paid to blog about had for kind of downsides and still getting paid. Okay, so maybe you don’t care about the ethical questions about getting paid for posting. That’s fine too, I still like you. :)
So how much money has I made from PayPerPost so far? Well I haven’t really made any money yet. I have posted a total of three articles for a total worth of $65.00. But only one of them has been approved so far and I won’t get paid for that one until about 30 days. It seems it take a long time until you get your posts approved, but so far so good.

PayPerPost offers two different ways to get paid. One way is that you get all the money yourself. The second option you have is to donate your money to charity (You can also just donate small amounts of your money to charity). I really like the idea about this. But unfortunately PayPerPost only offer two different charities, American Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity. But what if I want to donate to Greenpeace or another environmental organisation? PayPerPost should really add more charities to the list. If they did I could be able to donate more and on a regular basis.

So my question for you: How much have you made or donated from PayPerPost?

How to get more targeted and high CPC ads with AdBrite

Posted by Simon on March 13th, 2007 in AdBrite | 2 Comments

Are you using AdBrite on your site or blog? If yes then you might have asked yourself why you don’t get more targeted ads and why you don’t make more money from the clicks you generate. In this post I will answer both of those questions for you.

One thing you must understand is that AdBrite is not a contextual program like AdSense and YPN. This means that you will not get targeted ads from AdBrite that relates to the content on your site. When you create an ad zone at AdBrite you probably know you must choose a category for your site or blog. This is the category all of the ads shown on your site will relate to. That is why it’s so important to choose the right category. Choosing the right category is the first step to getting more relevant ads.

The second thing you must do is to login to your AdBrite publisher account and go to “manage ad zones”. Click on your ad zone and choose “Ad Specs”. At the bottom of that page under the title “Network Ads” un-check the box “Yes, auto-approve network ads (recommended)”. Now you might need to wait up to a day until you will get any ads to approve. But don’t worry, they will come.

Okay, so you have a bunch of ads to approve now? Great! Now you have the control to approve ads only that are relevant to your content and that pay high CPC. Depending on what kind of ad zone you have you might also get CPM banners and Interstitial ads.

IBackup.com - Online Storage and Backup

Posted by Simon on March 13th, 2007 in Softwares and Tools | 1 Comment

We all need a secure and trusted place to store our backups if something terrible should happen to your computer. You know what I am talking about. You just don’t want to think about hard drive crashes, computer viruses etc. Sometimes we just need a place to store important files temporary or in a longer time span. This is where IBackup.com – Online Storage comes in. They offer stable and secured online backup and storage, especially for small businesses.

If you take a look at IBackup.com’s prices you can see that they are a bit higher than other online storage and backup services. But those services haven’t got the features that IBackup.com has. They also haven’t won several awards including PCWorld and PCMagazine editor’s choices.

So if you are looking for a place to store your important files or backups you might want to take a look at IBackup.com.

Why THIS is the time for YOUR innovative idea.

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I certainly have. With the sudden growth of Web 2.0, there have been some really *great* websites and services being pushed out to us.

Let me give you some examples.

AddThis.com offers another way for your readers to bookmark your posts to a social bookmarking site or subscribing to your feed. You can find a few other alternatives here, here, there is another one here, here and I think you can find a few more if you use our search. Don’t worry, I have tested them all and they work great.

A special thing about AddThis.com is that if you sign up for a AddThis.com account you can see statistics about what your visitors bookmark on your website, and how often. Pretty neat!
