Slide Show of Sites

Posted by Gary on March 30th, 2007 in Free Stuff | 1 Comment

Just a combination of sites that offer online tools to create a slide show of the sites I have created lately. You may have something you would want to add to your site in slide show format. You will see the photo bucket tag on the slides and I suppose you would have to pay to get rid of that but I can live with it.

I first upload these url to Web Shot Pro. and it allows you to choose what size you would like you image to be, then download it.

Then I went to Photo Bucket and created an album, upload the pictures I wanted in the slide show and got the link to add here.

How Google ranks blogs

Posted by Simon on March 26th, 2007 in Blogging, SEO | No Comments

Googlesystem.blogspot.com explains how Google ranks blogs in their search result according to a new patent.

Positive signals

  • Links from blogrolls (especially from high-quality blogrolls or blogrolls of “trusted bloggers”)
  • Links from other sources (mail, chats)
  • Using tags to categorize a post
  • PageRank
  • The number of feed subscriptions (from feed readers)
  • Clicks in search results

Negative signals (spam signals)

  • Posts added at a predictable time
  • Different content between the site and the feed
  • The amount of duplicate content
  • Using words/n-grams that appear frequently in spam blogs
  • Posts that have identical size
  • Linking to a single web page
  • A large number of ads
  • The location of ads (”the presence of ads in the recent posts part of a blog”)

Vote on ‘.xxx’ Internet Address Nears

Posted by Simon on March 24th, 2007 in Domain Names | 1 Comment

Online pornographers and religious groups are in a rare alliance as a key Internet oversight agency nears a decision on creating a virtual red-light district through a “.xxx” Internet address. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, which has already rejected similar proposals twice since 2000, planned to vote as early as next week on whether to approve the domain name for voluntary use by porn sites.

At Sweetie.sublink.ca can you download a free icon set of over 180 different icons. The icon set is licensed under a Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0. The icons are really “sweet” and similar to FamFamFam’s fresh icons.

Cute and clear icons to use in your nifty web application. They are licenced under a Creative Commons licence, so commercial use is fine. Also feel free to make derivatives with the included Photoshop documents.

Digital Media Converter

Posted by Simon on March 16th, 2007 in Softwares and Tools | 2 Comments

DeskShare.com is a site I found this week. They offer a Digital Media Converter that makes it very easy for you to convert your video and audio files from file format to another.

Being able to change file formats is great when you need to upload audio or video files to your website, blog, YouTube or any other media site. By changing file formats you can easily reduce the file size of your video or audio so it eats less bandwidth when your visitors want to see your video or hear your audio podcast. If you want to learn more about how to reduce your video files sizes DeskShare.com has a nice tutorial on just how to do that.

You can easily convert the following file formats: VCD, DVD, AVI (DivX, MS MPEG4, uncompressed), MPEG-1, MPEG-2 (PAL, NTSC), MP3, MOV, WMV, WMA, DVR-MS, and WAV. The Digital Media Converter can also auto detect and fix many types of file format problems during conversion. It can adjust video brightness and contrast and many other things.

The Digital Media Converter costs $ 39.95 USD but for that cost you will get a lifetime technical support which is pretty neat. You can of course download a free trial version of the software from DeskShare.com. The Digital Media Converter only works on a PC that runs a Microsoft Windows operating system but you can still transfer your media files to your Apple iPod, for example.
