Posted by Simon on February 28th, 2007 in Blogging, Plugins and Mods, SEO | 2 Comments

If you use Wordpress as your blogging platform you might want to read this ten point tutorial on how to optimize your Wordpress blog. Here is tip number five:

5. Related Posts
When a person visits your blog you want then to stay for as long as you can. One of the best ways to keep visitors interested is to show them other content on your blog that may be related to the post they are currently reading. The easiest way to do this is with the ‘Related Posts‘ plugin. Upload using your FTP client into the wp-content > plugins folder, then login to your Wordpress admin panel and activate the plugin from the ‘Plugins’ page.

Clean your Windows

Posted by Simon on February 27th, 2007 in Softwares and Tools | 1 Comment

As we hopefully all knows your Microsoft Windows operating system becomes dirty faster than a 4×4 offroad veichle. Here are three very useful programs that can help you clean your windows.

Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition
I believe everyone knows about this free software. I will still list it here for those that don’t. You can read more about Ad-Aware and download it over at Download.com.

Webroot Spy Sweeper with AntiVirus
If you want to spend some cash you can always buy Webroot Spy Sweeper. It detects things that Ad-Aware doesn’t. I’ve used it several times before. It’s a good software - but it costs. Read more about it and download it over at Download.com.

Spybot - Search & Destroy
This software might be new to you. It was for me until very recently. It can find stuff that both Ad-Aware and Webroot Spy Sweeper can’t find. Frak, it even found stuff my antivirus program didn’t find. It’s a VERY useful tool. And it’s free. Read more about it and download it over at safer-networking.org.

The best thing would be to use all these three programs plus a fully working and up-to-date antivirus+firewall program on your Windows computer.

Publishers and Advertisers: Beware of STA-ADS

Posted by Simon on February 21st, 2007 in Make Money | 3 Comments

This is just a little quick warning letting you know that you should beware of STA-ADS. Several publishers haven’t got their payments from them and they rarely respond to support questions.

They seem to be a very suspicious company. You have been warned!

WordPress Plugin: Share This

Posted by Simon on February 19th, 2007 in Plugins and Mods | 2 Comments

I am now using another social bookmark plugin for WordPress called “Share This”. This new plugin works almost the same as the previous did, except that instead of small icons under every post it will only use a small icon and the text “share this” under all the blog posts. When you click on that link you will be taken to a page where you can add the post to all kinds of different social bookmarking sites. A new nice feature is that you can also email the post your friends. The plugin is made by Alex King.

You can download the plugin from alexking.org/projects/wordpress

Let your visitors share a post/page with others. Supports e-mail and posting to social bookmarking sites. Thanks to Thomas McMahon for footwork on the URLs.

1 cent HostGator hosting (first month)

Posted by Josh on February 17th, 2007 in Webhosting | 2 Comments

Yes, this is possible, I just signed up for a account, and it worked!

If you want to get your 1 cent hosting from HostGator (first month only I believe), just follow the following steps.

  • Go to the shared hosting page and select the “Baby” package ($9.95 a month)
  • Continue to sign up, and when you have the option to enter a coupon code, enter “tophost” (with no quotations)
  • Finish, and it should only charge you 1 cent!

Again, this does work, as I have done it myself.
