WordPress Plugin: Autoblog

Posted by Simon on December 21st, 2006 in Blogging, Plugins and Mods | No Comments

With this WordPress Plugin you can “automatically post to your Wordpress blog from an RSS, ATOM, or other XML feed”.

This plugin is potentially dangerous: it converts xml into Wordpress posts. It could be used to run an aggregator site, or it might be used by spammers to push high-profit keywords into their blogs. I’m not sure if writing a Wordpress plugin to automatically post from RSS will enable spammers a “5-minute” spam blog installation or not. However, I think that it’s useful in its own right, and helped me learn a little more about RSS.

I am currently testing the plugin out over at Green Blog. You can download the plugin and read more about it over at elliottback.com.

Are you looking for a “ethically run, reliable and responsible Internet hosting company”? Then look no more. Athenaeum offer you ecological hosting from £23.50 per year:

Athenaeum is an ethically run, reliable and responsible Internet hosting company. We are a small, friendly, family run business providing services with a personal touch. All our servers, offices and the data centre we use operate on renewable energy.

Our main hosting environment operates from a data centre running on solar power with a solar panel array capable of generating upto sixty kilowatts of electricity each day.

We are the only UK company (to our knowledge) offering hosting based in a data centre facility powered entirely by solar energy.

With prices starting at just £23.50 per year, there really is no reason to ignore your conscience. Make the switch today and help protect our environment.

My first payment from Adbrite

Today I received my very first payment from Adbrite. It’s a check with the amount of $153.01. I was actually very surprised that I got it this fast. I mean, I live in Sweden and they’ve sent it from San Francisco just a few days from now. Pretty nice I think. :)

Posted by Simon on December 14th, 2006 in Plugins and Mods | No Comments

Recent Comments Plugin will add a list of the most recent comments posted to your blog. They are gathered in descending order (newest at the top), but then grouped together by post title, so that comments from the same post are listed together. The list items will be links to the comments, and will contain the name of the commenter. You can see a live example of this plugin to the right.

Ruby on Rails for the rest of us

Posted by Simon on December 13th, 2006 in General Programming | No Comments

From the article: What Is Ruby On Rails?

You’ve probably heard of Ruby on Rails, which has been generating noise in the web development field over the past year. While buzz and hype are nothing new to our industry, it’s always beneficial to cut through that hype and the jargon to understand what a new technology really is about.

Ruby on Rails is an open-source web development framework that allows you to rapidly develop data-driven applications using the Ruby programming language. By applications I don’t mean software applications such as Photoshop that run on your desktop. Instead, I am referring to web applications such as Basecamp and Flickr. Like a desktop app, a web application solves a problem. For example, Basecamp lets you manage your client projects easily via the web, and Flickr lets you share photos with friends and family effortlessly.
