Sneaky Adsense Placements

Posted by Simon on August 28th, 2006 in Make Money, Opinion | No Comments

Here are two very sneaky AdSense placements. Isn’t this customization getting overhand? I mean, you actually trick your visitors into thinking that it’s just an ordinary link. Are ads like these worse than pop-ups? Or is it okay because the ads are contextual?

Can you find the AdSense ads on this website?

So many links, links and links. No ads here?

The eagle has landed!

Alright folks. The move is somehow completed now. I have moved almost everyone of our old posts and articles from easywebbers.blogspot.com to our brand new blog.

As I’ve said before, you don’t need to update your rss-feed because all that is fixed. If you have received this post thru your rss-reader then everything works just the way it is supposed to do.

I will add more and more things to the blog this week, like the newsletter and all that. A new template will come in a near future so you guys have to stick with this default template for a while. I’ll plan to do some minor changes to the code and some of the graphics, but not more. I am sorry, I just have too many things on my schedule right now.

So.. Easy Webbers will slowly get back on her feet again. All the authors will be re-invited this week and maybe we will see a few new authors here. Who knows? :)

Web Hosting - 10 Things To Avoid

Posted by Guest Author on August 27th, 2006 in Webhosting | 2 Comments

Our guest author this friday is Greg Cesar. He is a successful Internet marketer, web designer and web hosting provider with over 10 years’ experience. He specializes in providing innovative web hosting and internet marketing services that help business owners make more money online.

Very Cheap Pricing
Ok, here’s the rub: there are thousands of web hosting companies out there that have very low prices. The fact is that a cheap web hosting company offering very low rates is doing this for a reason. And the reason is that they are doing a tremendous amount of volume.

To a cheap web hosting company, you are just a number, especially if you are a small business. Here’s something else to consider: How many other websites will you be sharing your IP address with? You’ve heard of Spammers, haven’t you? Well, aggressive spammers generally go with the cheapest web hosting package they can find. Why? Because they know that they only plan to be in business for a certain amount of time. Did you know that spamming can get your site banned by the Search Engines and your ISP? In short, when you share your IP address with, say, 1000’s of other businesses, and one of these businesses happens to be a spammer, the entire IP address can, and most often will, be banned by the Search Engines. Then it’s goodbye, business. You probably won’t even know what has happened to make your traffic drop so dramatically. On top of all of this, a very cheap web hosting company will generally have very slow servers and common services will be denied because there is not enough bandwidth. You will be doing yourself and your business a tremendous disservice by going with a cheap web hosting company.

Five Blogging Mistakes

Posted by Simon on August 27th, 2006 in Blogging | 1 Comment

1. You have your own domain name and web hosting but you decide to host your blog elsewhere.
Why? If your website is www.anythinghere.com then your blog should be hosted at www.anythinghere.com. There is no reason for you to use an external blog service. First of all you are putting the control of your blog in their hands- what happens when they decide to erase it? - Believe me, it happens. The second reason this is silly is because you should want to brand yourself and your business. Using another company’s domain is great for their branding but not yours.

2. Long blog entries bore people.
Don’t be afraid to break up entries, you don’t have to post the whole story in one day. Also, make use of bullet points, numbered lists, and pictures.

3. Save the long words for your doctoral dissertation.
We know you are smart, we know you have a nice vocabulary but we don’t want to read “magnanimous” when “noble” will do. Keep it simple.

4. A RSS subscription option is very important.
Don’t be afraid of it. Don’t run from it. If you want people to read your blog on a regular basis then you have to make it easy for them to do so. Having an “enter your email here” box is a nice start. But if I have 25 blogs I read, I am not going to want 25 different emails coming to me each time someone updates.

5. Writing for search engines and contextual advertising is not the best way to make money.
Sure, you may get a few adsense clicks here and there but do you really think that people will come back for more if your sentences read like “I think you should make money with your financial payday loan so you can work at home and be rich with this banking information that I will give you for more money.” To put it simply, write for people-not for machines.

New version of Google talk released

Posted by Simon on August 27th, 2006 in Softwares and Tools | No Comments

New version of google talk, available to be downloaded from here, is being released today according to a post on Google blog. Some of the major features added are:

File transfer: Yes, after a long wait google talk has now added file transfer facility. So now you can share any type of file.

Voice mail: Google talk now allows you send voice mails. So now when you in a hurry to type you can send voice notes to you friend anytime.

Music Status Sharing: Now your friends can see the tracks you are listening too, with this feature. At the moment the only supported players are iTunes, Window Media Player, Winamp and Yahoo Music Engine. Owing to this I think Google might be coming up with its very own media player in near future, but this is my own speculation.

Some Webhosting Tips

Posted by Simon on August 27th, 2006 in Opinion, Webhosting | 2 Comments

Webhosting is a business that provides servers or computers for your website to actually reside in. It allows users all over the world to be able to access your website. There are a number of ways you can avail of webhosting. One of the methods is to do webhosting on your own. This method allows you to have total control over your website and be able to avail of all hosting services you require. The biggest drawback for this hosting method is it is very expensive and very difficult. It requires a lot of technical skills to do web hosting. Unless you have the money and technical skills required, it is highly recommended that you avail of hosting services provided by reputable hosting providers rather than doing it on your own. But if you are determined, you can host your websites on a desktop computer. The disadvantage in doing this though is that all files and accounts on your personal computer can be exposed to security risks such as hackers. In order to prevent this you need to install costly software called firewall. Aside from that, the amount of time you need for webhosting leaves you little time to attend to other business.

Create a Web 2.0 Logo

Posted by Simon on August 27th, 2006 in Links, Web Design | 1 Comment

Create a nice Web 2.0 logo for your website or blog using this generator. This is how mine turned out. However don’t take this to seriously.

Web 2.0 Logo!!! ;)

This is meant to be a parody of Web 2.0 Logos. While they are pretty cool, they are all kinda the same. It was created as a joke, not a serious logo maker. But feel free to use it to make a logo. :P

Why can’t I switch to Blogger in beta?

Posted by Simon on August 27th, 2006 in Blogging | No Comments

Maybe you are like me and really want to try out the new Blogger.com beta as soon as humanly possible, but can’t, because they won’t let you. Here are some reasons why they won’t accept you and your blog/s:

A blog publishing via FTP to a non-BlogSpot server.
A blog with a Plus upgrade (we stopped offering this upgrade a couple years ago, so this will not affect many people).
A team blog.
A blog with a mobile device associated with it.

Oh well.
